The Australian Water Gardener Art Gallery
Although most visitors to Australian Water Gardener are interested in obtaining practical horticultural and aqua-cultural information in order that they might either establish for successfully maintain a living water garden, there will be few who do not appreciate aspects of aquatic plants and water gardening in art.
As with most libraries there are associated art galleries, and so the establishment of a collection of water garden art has been a quite natural evolution. Here are displayed not only traditional paintings and photography, but old prints and early drawings, many from the world’s most famous botanical and horticultural publications. These can be of immeasurable value to the enthusiastic plantsman, and fish fancier, but a note of caution.

The nomenclature is not completely reliable, but the illustrations are beautiful. The world is full of these visual riches, and we will continue to develop the art gallery, although the scope of its offerings will embrace the whole natural and geographical world. Who could omit Monet’s contribution from a water gardening web-site, just because his offerings are French!

Australian subjects are important, and while many will be found amongst the general collection we have a special selection of Australiana to enjoy. This embraces, not only the conventional art of the art gallery and publications, but the aquatic plant and water garden issues of stamps produced by Australia Post.
Nymphaea gigantea - Giant Blue Waterlily
Painted in 1911 by Elis Rowan (1848-1922)
This is arguably the most famous work of art relating to aquatic plants and is from the collection of the Queensland Museum.
